C&H Fabrics Ltd, now rebranded as Closs and Hamblin, was founded on 1st April 1933 by Mr. Cyril Hamblin and Mr. Harold Closs. C&H excel in home and haberdashery. C&H immediately sought to distinguish itself from its many competitors by offering a wide range of good value, quality products, allied to experienced and knowledgeable staff offering the highest levels of customer service.
The focus of the Company was the market towns of South East England. Due to the success of C&H, came an increase in store size and product range. This meant a requirement for greater sophistication and development of the Head Office team.
In 1995, C&H introduced computerized technology between its stores and the Buying Offices. All stores held well over 30,000 product lines and the epos system was vital in managing this stock to facilitate the expansion of the Company while maintaining the availability of the bestselling lines for customers. After some research, POS was the chosen EPOS supplier tasked with this project.
POS created a multi branch system that allowed seamless interaction between the HQ and 9 retail locations. Transactions, purchase orders, customer orders, stock levels, products, etc were fed from and to the HQ system. Furthermore, the transactions are forwarded to the C&H accounting package. To this day, the POS system’s functionality and reliability has helped C&H manage their business effectively on a daily basis.
C&H have a successful ecommerce website at www.candh.co.uk, which POS integrate with, to send product descriptions, product specific detail, prices and stock levels. The POS system receives all orders from the website. This allows the production of picking lists, to help the staff collate orders, through to finalizing the orders via the EPOS system.
We have now worked with POS for over 20 years to evolve what is now a tailored EPOS solution that works well for our unique business. The challenge of products sold by the metre, order deposits and balances, web and accounts integration and multi-site functionality have all been successfully overcome and solutions implemented. Their friendly team support our stores well to resolve any ad hoc issues and ensure the day to day business can run smoothly.
