Experts say the Coronavirus could survive on currency in the same way that it is able to live on other hard surfaces.

To help minimise the spread of the virus it is recommended that you encourage customers to make use of contactless payment methods whenever possible.

A spokesperson for the World Health Organization said contactless cards could “reduce the risk of transmission”

As not all card transactions can be handled using contactless methods you should clean the pads regularly.

This usually means wiping the pads down with a microfiber cloth very slightly dampened with water and a (possibly disinfectant) soap solution making sure not to let any liquid penetrate into the device. Ideally you would use an alcohol based wipe though some manufacturers advise against their use, so if in doubt please check the manufacturer’s guidelines.
